Fall Makeup

October 5, 2010

The weather in Las Vegas is temperamental at best, so I’m just not ready to pack up my swimsuits and sundresses. So instead of cleaning out my closet to start the season, I’ve cleaned out my makeup bag. Here are my new favorites, and some old standbys!

I just discovered this Nars limited edition blush called “Douceur.” It’s perfect! It’s subtle and sheer, but easy to intensify without looking like a clown.

I may never buy another lipstick again! I discovered Glominerals “Sugarplum” lipstick at my parents medi-spa. In the tube it looks a little too dark and a little too shimmery, but it’s not. Looks great on everyone!

I love this DiorSkin Sculpt foundation. It has a really nice satiny finish. It’s not cheap, but definitely worth the $54. You wear your skin every day! Also, I can’t believe I’m buying foundation for “mature” skin.

I’ve been wearing Loreal Voluminous mascara since I was 14, and people always notice my eyelashes (which aren’t long at all!) I’ve flirted with DiorShow and some of the more expensive mascaras, but I always come back. It’s tough to beat $7 for a mascara that’s just as good. The trick it is replace it every 3-4 weeks, so it always looks fresh.

Tucker for Target

September 20, 2010

I’ve gotten a little jaded by the guest designers at Target. I feel like I’m seeing a lot of the same Madonna inspired corsets, ruched waists, and things that just don’t fit well. I had all but given up on my beloved Target when my great friend Christine got me this top for my birthday.

It looks great casual or dressed up. I tucked it into a high waisted pencil skirt and topped it with a hot pink cardigan. Nice transition piece for Fall. Thanks X!

My friends have intervened and informed me would be downright creepy if I purchased a wedding gown, even if it is perfect, on sale, and designed by the legendary Carolina Herrera. But that didn’t stop me from trying on nearly every single one! Now, I will pass on this valuable information to Las Vegas brides-to-be, and maybe women like my sister, who I describe as “engaged to be engaged.” Never hurts to be prepared, right?

Famed designer Carolina Herrera is selling dozens of gowns at a fraction of the price. They are all floor models from seasons past, meaning they have been tried on before. Still, they are in excellent condition. And there is a huge range of syles and sizes. There’s something for the traditional bride and the one who wants to show a little leg. There are a few the increasingly popular gowns with a removable skirt, so you can sex it up for the reception. My personal opinion- If you can pick one man for the rest of your life, you can stick with one dress for one night. Just sayin!

Sizes run from 4-14. There will be 30 to 40 gowns on sale starting at $1,300. The most expensive dresses (on the sale rack) are about $7,000. Everything will be sold 30-70 percent off the retail price.

Also, white satin Manolo Blahniks will be sold fifty percent of the retail price!

Jennifer, the bridal specialist, could not be sweeter, or more indulgent of non-brides like myself playing dress up! Give her some notice if you plan to come.

When:
Saturday September 11th from 10a.m.-8p.m

Michael Stars Sale

July 23, 2010

What a sale! Michael Stars at Town Square has its end of season sale starting today. And seriously it’s still 110 degrees, so there’s nothing “end of season” about the styles! I bought ten items for about 130 dollars! And typically these are 60 dollar T-shirts. The highlight was a cashmere sweater once a whopping $180. I paid $19! Get there before it’s gone (meaning before I go back for round 31)

6569 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Unit C-165
Las Vegas, NV 89119

Even if you don’t ever raise a paddle, don’t miss Julien’s Auctions at Planet Hollywood. What an incredible collection! There are more than fifteen-thousand items belonging to Hollywood legends and music icons. Marilyn Monroe, Anna Nicole Smith, Michael Jackson, Audrey Hepburn, Cher..the list goes on! They also have Star Trek memorabilia, which ‘Sorry, Trekkies,’ didn’t interest me a bit! Here are the things that did!

They have 22 pieces of furniture commissioned for Michael Jackson’s rented home in Kent, England. That’s where he planned to live during his “This Is It” tour. This red velvet sofa embellished with 24 carat gold is perfect for watching The Bachlorette with about 10 friends!
$130,000-150,000

Also, how wild is this floating console table, with gold detailing and colorful wings?! Jackson paid $145,000 for it, but never got to see it finished.
$90,000-100,000

Item 217 is an original TCB necklace, designed by Elvis and given to his stuntman, Dan Koko (part of his loyal group of friends dubbed the “Memphis Mafia”)
$10,000-12,000

Two celebs for the price of one! Mia Farrow’s pearl necklace given to her by Frank Sinatra is amazing! It’s 14 inches long, with a clasp covered in emeralds, sapphires, and rubies. Ol’ Blue Eyes had great taste!
$400-600

The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday until June 24th. That’s when the bidding starts!

A Little Lilly!

May 11, 2010

Spending the afternoon at the Tropicana put me in the mood for a vacation…and a new dress.

As part of their $165 million dollar expansion, the Las Vegas landmark partnered with Nikki Beach to create a laid-back yet glamorous beach club, which is set to open April of 2011.

During the announcement, they served sushi and champagne by the pool as models walked around in while long flowing dresses. Naturally, it put me in the mood for a little Lilly!

And Conveniently, there’s a Lilly Pulitzer Store called Desert Daisy at the District in Henderson!

Part of me wants to keep the best boutique in Las Vegas for myself, but I feel it’s my duty as a journalist, a woman, and a just nice person to share the love…and the Manolo Blahniks. That’s just one my amazing finds at The Refinery Celebrity Resale, the best consignment store in the entire world.

I bought a pair of strappy suede Manolos for $60 dollars (yes, you read that right…just one “0”). I’ve also acquired two pairs of never-worn Jimmy Choo boots, Jimmy Choo pumps, a Luca Luca silk dress, a Catherine Malandrino hot pink party dress, a $30 Ralph Lauren Collection beige dress that fox5vegas.com editor calls “your first lady outfit!”

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll find

After a two month hiatus, I went back to The Refinery during my lunch break today. A vintage Chanel handbag, enough St. John knits to make Angelina Jolie envious, a Cavalli ball gown…sigh

Couple of tips:
1. If you’re a size 9, you will be in shoe heaven. Unfortunately for my size 8 feet, one of their best clients must be a 9. Don’t think for a minute that doesn’t stop me from buying 9’s, then taking them to a shoe hospital for some alterations!
2. If you are genetically blessed or disciplined enough to be a size 2, you have your pick of the best clothes and top designers in the entire store.
3. Negotiate!
